Applesauce is a sauce made with peeled or unpeeled apples that is either sweetened or spiced and is widely used in North America and European countries. Apple butter is another type of applesauce that contains heavy amounts of sugar to preserve its shelf life. There are more products made with applesauce. Because of its popularity, ready-made products can be seen in supermarkets and online shops.

Considered as the best substitute for applesauce, pumpkin puree is a very common product found in supermarkets. The only drawback of using this puree is that it usually takes longer to be cooked, especially when used for baking goods.
